At the Back of Beyond
At the Back of Beyond features various provinces that lay on the edge of civilisation.
The dramatic landscapes illustrates provenance as the film illustrates the spirituality of long forgotten regions. With his camera, photographer Florian Wagner captures the mysticism of the areas, creating the building blocks of the film. It is a travel report with spectacular pictures of the landscape and rare moments that depict the atmosphere of the different ‘beyonds’.
Ever wondered what it’s like to stand in the middle of nowhere? This five-part documentary is a trip of discovery through places often thought of being outside of civilisation. It features remote regions like Département Finistère in France and small unknown paradises like the island of Ouessant. In exotic Sri Lanka, we meet tea pickers and monks while wading through thick fogs and Norway takes us on a Viking Ship to “Verdens Ende” which literal translates to “the End of the Earth”. The Amish in Pennsylvania regale us with tales of the “endless mountain” region and in Spain we explore in Costa da Morte the tracks of pilgrims to Finisterre.
