"The Farmer and I" is a deeply personal film about the shared vision of two people from totally different backgrounds.

The German filmmaker, Irja and the Bhutanese farmer Sangay's hope is to one day produce a TV-series, which will convince citizens of Bhutan to consider a life in agriculture. This film embarks on a challenging journey full of unexpected obstacles and hidden treasures and centers around two people's willingness to fight, tarry and struggle just to incite change.

Bhutan is on the cusp of globalization and as a result it has experienced mass migration from the countryside to the cities. There is no longer any pride in agriculture and the farmers have lost their will to harvest their lands.

Set against the backdrop of the grand, exotic, untouched lands of Bhutan, this film embarks on a challenging journey full of unsuspected obstacles and hidden treasures.
