Operation Africa: The Race for Tomorrow's Resources

52' (ENG, GER)

As the EU pushes towards climate neutrality by 2050, it’s locked in a geopolitical race with China for access to precious resources.

The green future comes at a price, and many of the raw materials needed are sourced from crisis regions in Africa. So far, China has taken the lead, but Europe is eager to catch up, promising fairer conditions to African countries than the authoritarian competition from Asia. Yet, not all are thrilled with the idea of former colonial powers returning to hunt for resources. Between jungle and rainforest, the green future is quickly becoming a fierce geopolitical race, raising ethical and environmental concerns that deeply affect local communities. From illegal cobalt mining in the Democratic Republic of Congo to controversial green hydrogen projects in Namibia, this documentary exposes the untold realities of Europe’s clean energy ambitions, revealing the complex trade-offs between progress and exploitation.
